We have AC sources up to 300 VAC with variable frequency and power.
What is an AC power supply / alternating current power source?
A typical AC power supply flowing from a wall outlet does not always maintain a constant voltage. It includes voltage fluctuations caused by changes in the power consumption of electrical devices connected to the same power source, and momentary power interruptions.
Since these fluctuations are not large, they do not pose a major problem for household appliances with simple structures such as lighting. However, for devices with electronic circuits or precision instruments, they can lead to problems such as malfunction. A stabilized AC power supply is therefore necessary to eliminate the effects of voltage fluctuations.
In addition, unlike a wall outlet, a regulated AC-to-AC power supply can deliver a variety of voltages and frequencies. For this reason, they are also used to simulate situations in which malfunction is possible, such as instantaneous power outages, harmonic generation and overvoltages, when testing electronic equipment.
As mentioned above, the electricity supplied from the power source contains various fluctuations, so it is necessary to verify in advance that the device under test (DUT) does not malfunction in such an environment. An AC power supply is also used for this check. When performing power supply tests, an AC power supply that is suited to the actual device under test is required for each test.
In addition, this property can be used to reproduce AC power outlets in countries around the world. When manufacturing electronic devices with AC input that are used worldwide, stabilized AC power supplies are used to test the AC input range according to the power supply conditions of each country and the voltage with the corresponding tolerance.
The following three properties are required of an AC power supply.
Output voltage stability.
Output waveform quality is stable and is not affected by fluctuations in the input voltage.
It can supply stable power without being affected by the type of load or by load increases/decreases.
Whether it is a DC power supply or an AC power supply, a stable, predetermined output is always required. But in the case of an AC power supply, not only the voltage but also the output waveform and the power supplied must be stable.
