León, in the state of Guanajuato, is the leather and footwear capital of Mexico. The city is home to hundreds of tanneries, shoe factories, leather goods workshops and suppliers of soles, lasts and leather chemicals. More recently it has added auto parts, plastic injection molding and logistics, helped by the industrial and customs platform in neighboring Silao.
Tanning is hard on facilities: drums turning for hours under heavy load, pumps moving chemical liquors, wet floors and pits where gas can build up. Shoe factories face a different challenge, keeping dozens of small machines and sole injection lines healthy when they all depend on stable power.
Environmental rules play a part too. Tanneries treat their wastewater before discharge, and the pumps, blowers and mixers in those treatment plants run continuously; when one of them fails, production may have to slow down until it is back in service.
León sectors and their electrical risk profile
- Tanneries: drum motors and gearboxes, effluent pumps, panels in a humid and corrosive atmosphere, and pits or tanks where hydrogen sulfide may be present.
- Footwear manufacturing: sewing machines, presses, activation ovens and air compressors spread across large buildings.
- Sole and plastic injection molding: machines with heater bands and variable frequency drives that are sensitive to voltage sags.
- Auto parts and logistics: newer buildings with their own substation, high-bay lighting and electric forklifts.
The most relevant services for León
Before anyone enters a tannery pit, tank or drain, they need to know what they are breathing. We rent an explosive gas analyzer reading LEL, H2S, CO and O2 and a confined space rescue kit with harness and tripod so maintenance crews go in properly equipped.
Drum and pump motors take a beating from moisture and chemicals. Insulation resistance testing for motors and cables tracks their deterioration year over year, and vibration analysis picks up wear in bearings, gearboxes and couplings before a drum stops with hides inside.
In shoe and injection molding plants, three-phase power quality analysis shows whether machine stoppages originate on the supply side, and panel thermography locates overheated connections. If a molding machine has a failed control board, see our CNC and industrial electronics repair.
For the rest of the state, including the automotive corridor, see electrical testing in Guanajuato.
How we serve León from Monterrey
CreativeIT works from its Monterrey laboratory and has no facilities in León. Our engineers travel to the city for insulation, vibration, power quality and thermography work; at tanneries we usually schedule it on weekends or during cleaning shutdowns, when the drums are stopped.
Rental gas detection and rescue equipment ships by courier, inspected and ready to use, and damaged electronic boards can be sent to the lab for repair. Every job is documented with photos, video, a work plan and protocol, and measurements can be taken with your safety lead present.
