We perform tests with vector network analyzers (VNA) up to 26.5 GHz. We have mechanical and electronic calibration kits for various connector types, and we can build fixtures for any available connector. VNAs are versatile tools used to characterize coaxial cables and other RF (radio frequency) components. Some tests we can perform with a VNA on coaxial cables include:
1. Insertion loss measurement: Determines the signal attenuation as it travels along the coaxial cable.
2. Impedance measurement: Evaluates the characteristic impedance of the cable to make sure it matches your design requirements.
3. Time domain reflectometry (TDR): Detects discontinuities in the cable, such as short circuits, open circuits or changes in impedance.
4. Frequency response measurement: Evaluates how the cable behaves as a function of frequency, identifying possible resonance or attenuation points.
5. Voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) measurement: Evaluates the cable’s ability to transmit signals without excessive reflections.
6. Shielding and isolation test: Verifies the cable’s ability to prevent electromagnetic interference.
7. Connector characterization: Evaluates signal loss and reflectance at the coaxial cable connectors.
