Accurate, reliable measurement for fiber optic networks – Technology for technicians and engineers who demand quality
What is a fiber optic power meter?
The optical power meter is an indispensable instrument for telecommunications technicians, fiber optic installers, and network engineers, used to measure the intensity of the light signal (dBm) traveling through a fiber optic link. This instrument lets you verify losses, validate signal levels, and ensure the proper operation of FTTH, LAN, WAN, or backbone systems
What is it used for?
- Accurate real-time optical power measurement.
- Connectivity checks between nodes or active equipment.
- Diagnosis of optical losses caused by splices or dirty or defective connectors.
- Certification testing on new installations or corrective/preventive maintenance.
How does it work?
The optical power meter connects directly to the optical connector of the cable under test. Its internal photodiode converts light into a proportional electrical signal that is measured and shown on the display. The instrument can:
- Measure continuous-wave (CW) or modulated light
- Detect different wavelengths (850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625 nm)
- Be referenced with a light source for insertion loss testing
- Be used together with fiber identifiers or visual fault locators (VFL)
Main Applications
- FTTH (Fiber to the Home) networks
- Data centers and telecommunications racks
- Backbone links between network nodes
- Passive optical networks (PON)
- Structured cabling with multimode and singlemode fiber
- Maintenance and installation of industrial and ISP networks
