What Is the EXFO FPM-300 Used For?

How Does the EXFO FPM-300 Work?
- Direct connection to the optical fiber: It connects directly to the fiber under test through interchangeable adapters (FC, SC, ST).
- Optical signal reception: The instrument detects the intensity of the optical signal coming from a light source or laser.
- Conversion and display: The optical signal is internally converted into an electrical signal by a calibrated photodiode and shown on the LCD as power in dBm or mW.
- Wavelength selection: The user can manually select the wavelength to be measured (850, 1310, 1550 nm, etc.), depending on the network type or standard in use.
- Comparison with an optical source: When paired with a light source (such as the EXFO FLS-300), it can measure loss over a fiber span, ideal for certification or fault detection.
